Videos

Below is a collection of short films ranging in stop animation, photography and video. This digital portfolio explores contemporary issues, values, heritage, culture, memories and the culmination of the creative process in artworks.

I grew up by the beach, and I absolutely am obsessed with beach and mermaid- themed regalia. As a child growing up, my favorite Disney movie was The Lil Mermaid. Moreover, the beach is my home and my temple because when I stand on the sand I feel fully in the present moment and connected with the world’s frequency. It is when I am the best and most aware version of myself and the closest to a higher power.

A documentary about taboo issues in contemporary society through the creative lenses of interviewing typical items found in most studios…..Art Supplies.
My son and I shot this short film of Sean’s toys, Legos versus Transformers. We enjoyed creating props, setting up a scene, making a make-shift tripod for the camera phone, and experimenting with stop animation. In Photoshop, I played with fps to produce different speeds at key frame moments.
For this film, I decide to focus on heritage, beliefs and culture within a 6′ x 6′ space by creating a scene that characterizes Santeria. I am Puerto Rican and most of my family practiced Santeria for good purposes such as healing, good fortune and blessings. The film documents the transition from innocence and existing to self-awareness and self-actualization with shots that focus on the face and the spiritual act, which symbolize the internalization of self within ourselves and seeking for connection with something that is bigger than one’s self. The moon is incorporated into the film for two reasons: a contrast to the small space and the association the lunar cycles have within Santeria. Additionally, the props are actual tarot cards and mortar and peddle that have been in my family for generations.
This short film documents the creative process on a painting based on family bonds and sentimental music by Lee Ann Womack, “I Hope You Dance.” My aunt, may she rest in peace, raised me as a teenager. We were very close and she dedicated this song to me as a reminder to dance in all of life’s storms, the ups and down, and the in-between.

When my son turned 16 years old, I decided to make a video of all his photos and memories from 16 years on down to Day 1 with an instrumental version of one of favorite song, “7 Years” by Lucas Graham. I love you so much son!

Tutorials

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were all unexpectedly turned upside down. Teachers, administrators, students and parents rose to the occasion and worked together for our children. Now… and more than ever… we have had the chance to see from a first-hand perspective the importance of the Arts in our lives and our kids’. Art teachers from around the world joined together to assist our students in using the creative side of their brain while keeping calm and busy during this time of uncertainty.

School is out now. However, a few videos and how-to instructions created for Google Classrooms and now available to help others stay creative through the summer. Many of these tutorials are meant to be easy and fun for school ages, K-5. These were done on my phone and makeshift studio/artroom (aka the dining room table). It is not meant for the aesthetics but rather for the purposes of engaging education, connection and sheer enjoyment. Enjoy!

The tutorial highlights sculpture making out of household items and history.

A video on creating sculptures out of found items with an emphasis on recycling and saving the planet.

The module demonstrates using drawing and art making skills to create a fun project that discusses a food chain of aquatic animals.

This film focuses on teaching students about stop animation and using everyday concepts of self-care through play, imagination and imitation of material manipulation.
